BANBRIDGE Amateur Swimming Club held their prize giving night last Tuesday in the Hockey Club.
Chairperson of the swimming club, Mr Trevor Wylie, welcomed Mr Tyrone Howe, ex international Rugby player to present the prizes.

In his introduction Trevor congratulated all the swimmers in the Provincial Town League on their recent promotion into
division three which has been a great boost for the club.

Despite the pool closure in the midst of the Belfast Telegraph Charity Shield League the junior swimmers still managed to come runners up in Division Two making this the best year for the club yet.

He explained the disruption to training during the closure was kept to a minimum due to the hard work of the club's secretary, Doretta Rippon, who made all the arrangements for transport and pool hire in other venues over the two months and it is hoped that the high cost will be reimbursed to the club.

SWIMMERS

He continued to say that the club with a 139 members was thriving and a number of swimmers had stamped the Banbridge name on the Ulster scene with the Age Group Championships and Potential Olympians.

Their objective for the next season was to encourage younger swimmers into the club and this initiative would kick off during the summer months from July 16 for six weeks trial period.
