ATHLETES ARE BACK IN ACTION AT THE MARY PETERS TRACK

A BLUSTERY evening at the Mary Peters track was the setting for the young group of athletes of Dromore Athletics Club taking part in a festival of 15s organised by the NIAF.
These are 1500m races at different pace levels with a pacemaker helping to pull the athletes to fast times and personal bests.
The six athletes on show from the Dromore club all had great runs on the night with four PBs from Simon Thompson (4m07.86s), Robyn McKee (5m00.78s), Dean Cain (5m02.51s) and Chloe Harris (5m03.91s).
Two others went very close with Lorna Fitzpatrick (4m55.02s) and Ryan McDermott (4m23.80s) scoring good times.
But Ryan got his reward at the weekend competing in the Tailteann Schools' Athletics Interprovincial at Santry Stadium, taking sixth place in the intermediate boys race with a great run to lower his PB to a superb 4m17.24s, while Lorna Fitzpatrick ran well for her fifth place in the intermediate girls 1500m.
Both athletes were representing Ulster Schools.
