BANBRIDGE'S Orla Faulkner was part of Northern Ireland Water's Ladies Drilling and Tapping teams who completed a remarkable double at the Institution of Water Officers UK Championships by claiming first and second place.
Both teams beat off stiff competition from the American and Dutch champions as well as seasoned teams from England and Scotland.
NI Water's Tracey Mitchell and Jean McAlonan claimed the title of 'UK Ladies Champions' with a time of 4.21 minutes in the seventh Annual Ladies Event.
They were closely followed by Banbridge's Orla and Fiona Duff from Portaferry in second place with a time of 4.27 minutes.
The Drilling and Tapping competition is a water industry time trial event with two participants in each team.
Competitors have to produce a typical connection to a watermain. This involves drilling and tapping a hole in an iron watermain by hand and connecting all the necessary pipe-work and fittings, including a meter box, meter and water tap.
This is all carried out on a 'live' main which is pressurized at 70 -100 psi (pound force per square inch). The time taken from the start until the tap is turned on and water hits the floor is recorded.
