A LOCAL MLA and councillor have both confirmed that two local school projects have now reached Stage C.
Upper Bann Sinn Fein MLA John O'Dowd and his party's local councillor Dessie Ward have been monitoring progress, through the Department of Education, on the proposed new build schemes at St. Mary's Primary School and St. Patrick's College.
Mr O'Dowd enquired about the new build schemes through a written question to the Minister, Caitriona Ruane.
He commented: "These projects are now at Stage C of the process, which is the initial outline sketch and costings stage and I welcome the fact that there has been recent approval for both.
"It is estimated that construction work on both could start in the 2008/2009 financial year and be completed in 2010/11."
Councillor Ward continued: "As a former pupil of both schools, I have been monitoring progress on both projects very closely.
"It is imperative that both schools have facilities that meet the needs of both pupils and teachers and I welcome the fact that the learning environment for both schools will be improved for future generations."
