DONAGHCLONEY residents are living in fear that someone could be killed as a result of drivers speeding through the village.
And police have reminded people that the only way to combat the problem is to drive safely.
The quiet village has become notorious for speeders travelling between Banbridge and Lurgan and fears are rife that someone could lose their life as a result of reckless driving.
One resident who contacted the Leader and did not wish to be named sai
d, "People are constantly speeding through the village and nobody is ever out from the Police to monitor the situation.
"Something needs to be done before somebody is killed or is seriously injured. Some of the drivers who come through here are going 60mph in a 30mph zone and at times the Main Street can be very busy.
"Are Police going to come out and monitor the situation more closely?" she asked.
A PSNI spokesperson said, "Speed kills, and it is important to emphasise the point and to remind all drivers that there are consequences to breaking the speed limit and driving in a manner that does not ensure the safety of all road users.
"Speeding motorists are a menace and as speed limits are very clearly signposted there can be no excuse for people who are detected exceeding the limit.
Craigavon Area Commander Chief Inspector Jason Murphy said, "There is no doubt that the roads would be a much safer place if motorists took a more responsible attitude to speeding and took heed of the tragic consequences that too often are the result.
"For that reason, speed detection takes place at all times of the day and night in urban and rural areas, and we continue to target locations where collisions have occurred and where the risk is greatest.
"All we ask is that drivers slow down, do not drive after drinking or taking drugs, wear a seatbelt and drive with greater care and attention.
"We are committed to addressing issues that affect the local community and would urge anyone with concerns to contact their local police on 0845 600 8000."
